
Dr. David Sklar is a physician and writer, specializing in Emergency Medicine. Author or co-author of more than one hundred publications, Dr. Sklar’s research has included medical error, pain, headache, injury prevention, education and health services. He presently serves as Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Sklar’s recent book “La Clinica – A Doctor’s Journey Across Borders” (UNM Press) explores the complex relationship between American volunteers attempting to provide medical care to indigent patients in rural Mexico in the early 1970s. Many of the themes of uncertainty, social justice, failure and redemption are echoed in stories of his later practice of Emergency Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Sklar has served as President of the Council of Residency Directors of Emergency Medicine, and President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. He presently is a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians and is an editorial board member of the journals Academic Medicine and Annals of Emergency Medicine.
